Solar G-Shocks use a rechargeable button cell (CTL1616 mostly) that lasts a long time, but not forever. Eventually they don't hold a charge. 15-25 years is a rough estimate for the lifespan. Replacing batteries is very easy. A CR2016 is about $3 and you can buy anywhere.
the reason why they use one leaf and one coiled spring, is that the leaf spring goes direct to the battery more or less. the coiled spring on the other hand goes all the way up past the battery to the circuit board. That's way too far to use a leaf spring. Spray silicon spray on a plate, and lay the gasket in it and make sure its fully coated. Change the batteries, and once the new batteries are in take the paper clip and touch the back of the battery and the terminal (it will be marked inside the watch) at the same time to restart it.

Go back to the place that replaced the battery. They clearly goofed when they closed the case and ruined the water resistance. As a rule-of-thumb, whenever you open a waterproof watch you are supposed to change out the gasket. The second rule is never trust that a case is still waterproof unless it has been pressure tested.
Again, normal daily use won’t drain the battery. The GWG will charge faster than it discharges 90% of the time it’s on your wrist. It needs to be charged in light every six months if it needs it. The battery is guaranteed for at least 10 years. I have a small uv light to charge my watches with.
